Feature-packed media management application with tools to organize, tag, rip and synchronize audio and video files with conversion utility.
MediaMonkey is a powerful music library software that helps users to organize and manage large music collections. It allows users to access, tag, and play their music in various formats, and is compatible with a range of portable devices. With its intuitive user interface, MediaMonkey makes it easy to organize and customize music collections.
Getting started
The user interface of MediaMonkey is easy to navigate and provides convenient access to a range of features. The main window is laid out in a simple, intuitive way, and offers quick access to the music library, playlists, and more. The software also supports drag-and-drop functionality, making it easy to add and remove files from a playlist.
The program has a range of powerful features that make it an ideal choice for music lovers. It supports a range of music formats, including MP3, WAV, OGG, and FLAC, while providing a range of tools for tagging and organizing music, such as auto-tagging of files and album art. It includes a range of playback options, including shuffle, repeat, and crossfade.
A great alternative to iTunes
If you thought iTunes for Windows was a must-have audio organizer and player, think again. With MediaMonkey, you'd be hard pressed to find something here that you don't like! Compare that to the nags of updating and the crashes of iTunes, and you might just ditch the Apple product all together.. especially since MediaMonkey supports synchronization with Apple devices like iPods. If you're using a Sony device, then this app is light years ahead of anything Sony has been able to produce (Connect/SonicStage).
When you first launch MediaMonkey, you'll be given the option to scan your computer for music files it supports and in this case, it scanned the PC for MP3, and WMA files. The scanning was a little bit slow due to the size of our collection on the first run, but on the second time we tried it, it was lightning fast. The actual task of organizing mp3s was much better than iTunes or Winamp, hands down.
With the above stated fast that this software runs without a hitch and (in our opinion), much better than iTunes, it also comes with many more file-support options.
Strictly as a music player, MediaMonkey is a strong contender. It supports Winamp plugins (which are available across the web), features auto-volume-correction, cross-fading, a comprehensive equalizer and more.
Perhaps one of the strongest points of this program is its efficiency when tagging, re-tagging and cleaning idv3 tags. If you're somebody who gets annoyed with ugly tags on your MP3 files when playing them on your portable device, then you'll appreciate this.
In closing
From all of the music organizers we've tried, MediaMonkey is definitely near or at the top of the list. The pro version offers a few extra features for a price, but the free version is definitely not lacking. Without a doubt, a lot of work went into creating and maintaining this program and the fact that Ventis Media offers a freeware version without the usual limitations and nags is certainly a plus.

Compatibility and License
MediaMonkey is a restricted version of commercial software, often called freemium which requires you to pay a license fee to unlock additional features which are not accessible with the free version. Download and installation of this software is free, however other similar programs are available from MP3 player software which may have what you need. 5.0.5.2695 is the latest version last time we checked.
What version of Windows can MediaMonkey run on?
MediaMonkey can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads.
Other operating systems: The latest MediaMonkey version from 2024 is also available for Android. These are often available from the app store.
